Boosting Your Fiber Intake
Fiber can be beneficial for minimizing the discomfort associated with several common IBS symptoms. These symptoms include stomach pain and bloating. Fiber softens the texture of stool matter and therefore encourages it to leave the body more efficiently. If you want to keep your IBS discomfort under control, some of the best foods are those that are rich in fiber. Whole grain cereals and breads are both packed with fiber. It’s important to note that while cooked vegetables in general can be helpful for relieving IBS symptoms, there are a few important special cases to consider. If you have IBS, you may want to refrain from eating cooked veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. These vegetables can lead to excessive gas in some people. Not all people experience increased gas from these vegetables, however. It’s a case-by-case thing.

If you love eating snacks but notice that the majority of them make you feel uncomfortable, go for some tried-and-true treats that generally don’t exacerbate IBS symptoms in sufferers. Examples of some commonly IBS-friendly snack foods are the following:

Living with IBS in no way means having to give up on snack foods that are delicious and satisfying.
Knowing Which Foods to Ignore
Eating well with IBS is just as much about knowing which foods to avoid as it is about knowing which ones to select. If you want to keep your IBS symptoms at bay, or at least reduce their severity, then you should try to stay far away from foods such as nuts and chocolate. Beverages that contain caffeine are often big “no-nos” for people who have IBS, as well. If you have IBS, you may notice that you experience increased discomfort after drinking a big cup of coffee in the morning, for example. If you want to maintain smooth sailing of your digestive system, it’s also wise to refrain from upsetting your gut by eating fatty foods or overly big meals.
